Note: File permission can be divided in to 4 parts

For File

-|rw-|r--|r--|

For Directory

d|rwx|r-x|r-x|

1. Shows the File permissions.

  • The first character indicates whether is it is a file or Directory, if it is starts with “-” then it is a file and if it starts with “d” then it is the directory.
  • The Second set of the three characters represent the read, write, and execution rights of the file’s owner.
  • The Third set of the three characters represent the read, write, and execution rights of the file’s Group.
  • The Fourth set of the three characters represent the read, write, and execution rights of the everybody else.

2. Owner.

  • Name of the user who owns the file.

3. Groups

  • The Name of the group that has file permission in addition to the file’s owner.

4. Size

  • The Size of the file in bytes.

5. Modification Time

  • The last time the file was modified. If the last modification occurred more than six months in the past, the date and year are displayed. Otherwise. The time of the day is shown.

6. File name

  • The Name of the File or Directory.

RHEL 6.0 Installation Hardware Requirements

1. CPU/Architecture Requirements

o It runs on X86_64 Architecture

o 64 bit Systems are required.

o Supporting CPU Architecture

Ø X86 (32-Bit)

Ø Intel/AMD64 (X86_64)

Ø IBM Power Architecture (64bit)

Ø IBM Systems Z Architecture

clip_image001[22] Command to check the architecture of the system

#uname –p

Example :

[root@localhost ~]# uname -p
x86_64

clip_image001[23] To check Configuration that supports Hardware assisted Virtualization

[root@localhost ~]# cat /proc/cpuinfo

Note: If you find vmx for Intel and svm for AMD, under flags then it supports Hardware assisted Virtualization.

2. RAM Requirements:

clip_image001[24] Officially requires 512 MB RAM

clip_image001[25] Recommended 1GB RAM per system.

clip_image001[26] For VM’s running without GUI mode needs less than 512 MB RAM

clip_image001[27] On 32 bit system maximum RAM supported is 16GB

clip_image001[28] On 62 bit system maximum RAM supported is 2TB

3. Hard drive Requirements:

clip_image001[29] Supports PATA, SATA and SCSI

clip_image001[30] Supports attachments up to 31 different SCSI Hard drives.

clip_image001[31] Can configure 16 SATA Drives on Systems
